[info]disneykingdome is a game based on Disney films and characters. This is the place where princess wait to be rescued. Princes slay dragons, and dragons feel misunderstood. Everyone has a story. The version nobody has ever heard before. What do you suppose Cinderella’s stepsisters feel after the wedding? Did Aurora and Prince Phillip really live happily ever after? If you ever wonder these things, if you wish to rewrite your favorite cartoons this is the place for you.

This all takes place in the wonderful world of Disney. All of the characters can travel outside their kingdoms. They are all allowed to interact with one another. However unless they are in the same story they are not allowed to know each other, but you are more than welcome to introduce them. It is up to you to establish what part of the story you would like to play. For example: you may play Alice as a baby or as if she just returned from Wonderland. Everything in this game is entirely up to you!

We accept ONLY Disney characters. But you can try and apply with another fairytale/cartoon character. We will try to see if they would fit in. This is the list of Disney characters we will accept for sure.

Hi everyone! My companion and I just moved here from Austin, TX. I am sure there is probably more than one good association or meet-up for the self-employed around here? I would love to talk to people about how to start a business, the legalities, and all that jazz.

My business only exists in my head right now but it is related to videography, in case the industry makes a difference.

I moved out of a rental unit the first of Oct. I had given over a 30 day notice - left my forwarding address and I had paid a deposit when I moved in. Well long story short.. I have lived at my new place for 2 months and never heard from this old company. I figured my deposit had covered the minor repairs it needed. Life went on :) Then tonight when I checked the mail I had a bill from them for over 700.00 (2 months later)!!!!!!!! It was not itemized and no where did it mention my deposit! My question is: Does a lanlord have so many days to notify you of the amount owed? Dont they have to give me an itemized list? Show my deposit credit? Ahhh! I just cant handle a 700.00 bill just before Xmas this year!!

Anyone know of a good, free, secure online storage site where I can back up around 30 gigs of data from my external hard drive? I neglected to format it to NTSF when I first got it and it's still in FAT32 format, and I found out how to convert it without losing data but I'd still like to back up my stuff if something goes wrong. My main C drive is too small to hold all the stuff, and I don't have a CD burner on this laptop, so online storage is pretty much my only option at this point. If I have to, I'm open to using multiple sites (say, one for music, one for pics, one for videos, and one for documents). I don't like esnips that much as when I tried to upload some mp3s a while back it bitched at me about copyright and deleted them.

I'm thinking about Adrive.com, it gives 50 gigs for free which is more than enough for me right now, anyone have any experience with it?

Okay, sorry it's taken so long for things to get figured out, but for those of you who were interested in this idea, I finally have some info. We're just going to use Facebook and Twitter for now but we may move things to LJ further on down the line, as well. If you'd like to go ahead and set up in-character Facebook and Twitter accounts, go right ahead and please link to them in the comments here, so we all know who to add.

If someone already called dibs on a character in the last post I made, their spot is held, unless they'd like to give it up, so please check there before setting anything up!

Here are the links to Dana and Helena:
Helena: Facebook and Twitter
Dana: Facebook and Twitter

Remember, keep everything in character. The accounts you're setting up will be used as the character's accounts, not yours.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help!

What are your favorite ghettofied recipes? You know, dishes you make up on the fly when you've only got limited food in the house, and then you discover that they're actually pretty damn good.

Here are mine:

- Ghetto tuna casserole: Ramen + egg + parmesan + tuna
- Spaghetto: Ramen + chili

Boneshaker (2009)
Written by: Cherie Priest
Genre: Steampunk/Alternate History
Pages: 416 (Trade Paperback)

The premise: in order to truly appreciate what Priest is doing, I'm giving you not one, but TWO premises. The first is the overall premise for the series/world-building, and the second is the actual premise of the book. I think that's fair.

The Clockwork Century: explanation plucked from Subterranean Press's website, the preface for Priest's short story, also set in the Clockwork Century universe, Tanglefoot.: Stonewall Jackson survived Chancellorsville. England broke the Union’s naval blockade, and formally recognized the Confederate States of America. Atlanta never burned.

It is 1880. The American Civil War has raged for nearly two decades, driving technology in strange and terrible directions. Combat dirigibles skulk across the sky and armored vehicles crawl along the land. Military scientists twist the laws of man and nature, and barter their souls for weapons powered by light, fire, and steam.

But life struggles forward for soldiers and ordinary citizens. The fractured nation is dotted with stricken towns and epic scenes of devastation–some manmade, and some more mysterious. In the western territories cities are swallowed by gas and walled away to rot while the frontiers are strip-mined for resources. On the borders between North and South, spies scour and scheme, and smugglers build economies more stable than their governments.

This is the Clockwork Century.

It is dark here, and different.

Boneshaker's Premise: Rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike encouraged the Russians to seek a machine that could actually drill for it. Leviticus Blue took up the challenge and built the great Boneshaker. But before the Russians could get a hold of it, it went on a test run through the city of Seattle, not only destroying several blocks of the city, but it released a blight of gas that turned anyone who breathed it into a rotter (aka the living dead). Now, years later, the son of Leviticus Blue is determined to prove his father wasn't a criminal for his actions, and he sneaks into the now-walled city of Seattle to get that proof. His mother, Briar Blue, terrified for her son's safety and what he might find, goes after him. But nothing easy within the walls of Seattle, as there's more than just the undead to outwit and outrun, and Zeke and Briar will need everything they've got to survive those who have a peculiar and deadly interest in them.

My Rating

Worth the Cash: it's definitely an entertaining read, and a well-written one. For anyone curious about steampunk as a sub-genre, it's a great place to start, because Priest has a sensible, practical approach to it, all the while telling a fun story. Fun might be an odd word to describe a book that reeks a bit of horror, but it's all good. I could easily see this made into a movie, and to be honest, I hope it happens. There's something wonderfully visual about this book, and the story lends itself to the big screen. While it's not my favorite Priest book (that honor goes to the Eden Moore trilogy, but that may be bias talking as the trilogy's setting is two hours from where I live), it's very good and I'm happy to have another Priest book under my belt.

For those of you still not sure if Boneshaker is right for you, you can sample the Clockwork Century universe by reading Priest's short story Tanglefoot. The only relation to Boneshaker is the world itself, as no characters overlap and nothing references the events, let alone spoils the events, of the book. It's a good little read, with shades of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and I think you'll enjoy it. You can also check out her Clockwork Century website, which features news of all the books and short stories taking place in the universe. Priest is an entertaining blogger anyway, so you shouldn't be disappointed.

As for my part, Priest remains one of my favorite authors, and I'm happy to continue with her books, steampunk or no. She hasn't kindled a great love within me for steampunk or anything, but I'll read whatever she writes provided it's well-written and entertaining. She hasn't let me down yet.

Review style: No spoilers. I'm going to talk about, and I may say some things that might lead you to figure out certain plot points, but I won't outright spoil anything. :) If you're paranoid, don't bother clicking the link below, but if you're not, the link goes to my LJ, and there's a much longer discussion about the book. As always, comments and discussion are most welcome. :)

REVIEW: Cherie Priest's BONESHAKER

Happy Reading! :)

You've managed to stumble upon Novi Pompeii. If you're looking for an archaeological dig, you're in the wrong place. You're looking for Antiquus Pompeii, in Italy, nestled at the base of Mount Vesuvius. This Pompeii is a modern city in Northern California, climbing the side of a mountain for little more reason than to beautify its skyline. Novi Pompeii is a home for the wealthy, a vacation destination for the middle class, and little more than off-limits to the poor. It's a dog eat dog world, baby.

So. Like any big city, Novi Pompeii is ruled by corruption. The mayor? The police? The judges? The jury? Figureheads. This city is ruled by the mafia. Until recently, the Italian Mafia had complete control over Novi Pompeii, claiming the city as their own through birthright. They have since relinquished their control to the Irish Mob—the Wayward family, to be precise—all because of a certain incident that occured hundreds of miles away in Chicago, Illinois.

Cadence Wayward was ordered by his beloved cousin and then-head of the family, Clover, to take out Jason Sparks, a gun-for-hire that refused to take their jobs. Jason's daughter, a petite blonde named Hallelujah that can move things with her mind, had her revenge when she set up pipe bombs around the mansion and pressed the plunger. With Clover and the rest of the main family dead, leadership was passed on to Cadence, whose first course of action was to follow Hallelujah to Novi Pompeii and establish the new family headquarters there. He methodically pushed out all other mob families until the Waywards were the only one.

Instead of making her suffer alone, Cadence chose to turn his hatred into money for the family. He started gathering up other people like Hallelujah, people with psychic abilties, in order to assist in his new... operation.

And it's a wonderful operation.

So I just recently bought my first Apple computer, my 13-inch MacBook Pro, after going through 3 Toshiba laptops.
I love it, but I'm still figuring out little I things I can do troubleshooting wise.

I'm struggling with my Internet connection. I can connect to my network no problem - but it's unbearable!
I connect from AirPort, and even though it says 'Connected' - it doesn't connect to the Internet right away. Usually I have to disconnect and connect multiple times before the internet begins to work; but then the Internet is unbearably slow. And it constantly disconnects.

However, my brothers have no problem with their Internet connection on their PC's and my years old Dell Desktop can connect to the network and use the Internet just fine.

Is there anything I'm done wrong? Anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks :)

Sorry, gonna be a little late today, but it'll be up.

So, right now Alaska Airlines is running a special that'd get me to the Bay Area for $50 each way to attend a convention at the beginning of March. Southwest seems to be matching that price on flights on those days.

The last time I flew anywhere was 1999, when I took Alaska Airlines to, surprisingly enough, Anchorage Alaska. I remember that flight being decent except for being allergic to the peppers in the omelet, which will presumably not be a problem I'll be having in coach on a PDX -> SJC flight on any airline whosoever. However, a a decade has passed, everyone collectively shat their pants about terrorism, no one has any money, and my understanding is that all airlines suck now.

Anyway, if I have a choice of Alaska or Southwest for the same price for direct flights to/from the same airports on the same days, any opinions on which I should go for? Alternately, anyone want to split gas and driving on a road trip to the Bay Area in March leaving on Thursday the 4th and returning Monday the 8th?

I've become such a fan of this blog... yet another article that resonates with me right now:
http://generationmeh.com/2009/12/02/expiration-dated-of-lost-luggage-and-missed-connections/

I particularly need to remember this part, in times where I'm getting freaked about being prepared for what's to come. (such as right now, with two big vendor events looming on the horizon over the next week or so)

Opportunity comes when it comes and it comes with the caveat that it's more ephemeral than you would imagine. The timing might suck, the circumstances might be all wrong, you might have a dozen other plates in the air, but there's opportunity, standing on your doorstep, cap in hand, FRAGILE stamped on its forehead and it's only gonna knock once, ya dig? And the perfect storm of readiness that you're waiting for? It's never going to come. There will never be a right time. Life is lived out of alignment. You can either accept that and modify your approach accordingly, or you can put your carpe diem off indefinitely and be left with nothing but whatever was stashed in your carry-on to show for it.

There are two sides to that, from where I'm standing:

A) the fact that opportunity is fleeting is precisely WHY I'm often working so hard, and it's a justifiable reason to do so. So much of life can simply be about being in the right place at the right time, knowing the right people, and so forth... missing out can make or break you.

B) the "perfect storm of readiness" really WON'T ever come, and although I *can* prepare myself to a certain extent, I may never feel Completely Ready for what I'm about to face. So, maybe I shouldn't fret so hard over accounting for and anticipating every last little thing.

Okay, enough angst. I'll post something more fun soon, I promise. ;)

The following is a small snippet from the interview starting at 6:32:

I am not a political person. I have done political things before but it’s been brought to my attention that this is a political act, even though that’s now what it feels like to me. It just feels like personal exposure and its uncomfortable. From my understanding, is that so much research has been done that says that if anyone knows someone that’s gay or lesbian, then when they are addressing gay or lesbian issues; political issues that effect their rights, they’re less likely to vote against them, to take away their rights. So if you knew me before and you cared about me before; I am the same woman. I am the same mother too all of these children and if I can be that lesbian you know now, oh okay if I vote this way then that might actually effect this person that I know, that Meredith.”

image While I think that it took great courage to publicly reveal her sexual identity, I long for the day when such an admission is no longer necessary. Who we love should never take precedence over the act of love itself. The fact that gays and lesbians must still declare their sexual preference to the world is a reflection of the hegemony of heterosexism. It saddens me that this is a political act and yet when heterosexuals embark on a relationship together, it is simply considered a natural part of ones life's path.

I remember watching the Ellen interview on Oprah. For the first time images and video from their intimate wedding were made public. When Portia walked onstage, Ellen's whole demeanour changed and you could tell that this woman is the love of her life. It was positively beautiful and yet Oprah kept calling the two of them cute. Though Oprah clearly thought that this was an expression of acceptance, it amounted to the belittling of their relationship.

Accepting gays and lesbians means more than calling them “cute”, it means validating the love that they share with their significant other. These relationships are every bit as serious and meaningful as heterosexual partnerships. Even amongst those who claim to be liberal, a stigma still attaches itself to a gay and lesbian identity. Meredith should have been able to go about her life loving who she chose without having to make a declaration on national television. Heterosexual stars carry on long term relationships constantly without having to appear on television to announce that they are choosing to share their lives with someone. While it makes me happy to know that one of my favourite television moms is enjoying her life, it saddens me to know that it’s considered political act.

http://www.womanist-musings.com/2009/12/meredith-comes-out.html

And for those of your who don't know her off the top of your head (I know I didn't), Wikipedia says, "Meredith Ann Baxter (born June 21, 1947), formerly Meredith Baxter Birney, is an American actress. She is best-known for her roles on the television programs Family (1976-1980), and on the comedy Family Ties (1982-1989)."

Doctor's appointment went well, it was just a check-up. They took some blood, fretted over my heartrate (she figured it was just elevated due to pain, which is likely), told me if the chiropractor ever needed more x-rays I could get them through the VA and save myself some money. I know people don't hear this much, but sometimes the VA is just plain awesome. Have another appointment in a week or two for mental health, woohoo.

While I was already out and it was on the way home, I picked up some groceries. Diana needed food and I did too, a bit. I've made a decision to try to eat healthier on a daily basis, rather than constant crap. So what I bought is all still cheap, but healthier now. Maybe next time the VA weighs me I won't want to cry. ;)

OH, and since I forgot yesterday... remember that little project I said I was working on that I wouldn't show until December?

Well this is it )

Okay, now to clean up the kitchen a bit and vacuum. Maybe if my hip will let me do more than that I'll clean up the bathroom too. I'd include the bedroom but I shouldn't overdo it and get myself hurt even worse.
